What Is The Gospel?

The word gospel means good news. It is the announcement that God has done what we could never do for ourselves. The gospel is the story of how God, in Christ, reconciles sinners to Himself and gives them new life.

  1. We Are Sinners
“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)
Sin is not merely bad behavior; it is rebellion against a holy God. Because of sin, we are separated from Him and under His righteous judgment.

  2. The Penalty and Power of Sin
“The wages of sin is death.” (Romans 6:23a)
Sin brings both penalty, death, and slavery. We cannot free ourselves or earn our way back to God.

  3. God Intervened Through Christ
“While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
God’s justice demanded a payment for sin, and His mercy provided that payment through Jesus Christ, who bore our punishment on the cross.

  4. Christ’s Resurrection Brings New Life
“He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.” (Romans 4:25)
By His resurrection, Christ conquered sin and death. To believe the gospel is to trust in His finished work. His life, death, and resurrection, for our salvation.

  5. We Respond by Repentance and Faith
“Repent and believe in the gospel.” (Mark 1:15)
We turn from sin (repentance) and trust in Christ alone (faith). Salvation is not achieved by our works but received as a free gift, eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23b)

  6. The Gospel Produces Transformation
“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
The gospel not only forgives, it transforms. Those who trust Christ are born again, adopted into God’s family, and empowered by the Spirit to live for Him until the day He returns.
